How To Get Clients For Your Business (and Keep Them Coming)
When I started my business, I didn’t know who my ideal client was. I worked with men. I worked with college students. I worked with high schoolers. I worked with corporations.
All of these markets are not my ideal clients today. But, I had to try a lot of markets before my niche became super clear.
Part 1: Identify Your Ideal Clients
Over the last 10 years, my niche gets clearer and clearer with the more action I take and the more I uncover how I can best serve my market. My ideal clients today are moms who want to start and grow businesses. But, I never could have marketed to moms when I started my business (because I wasn’t a mom!) It’s ok for your market to change over time.
Note: If you are reading this and not a mom, know that I still serve you too! It just makes me more comfortable and confident holding my baby in a training video or pumping while on a coaching call. Working with moms is now me being more authentic to who I am today…a mom of three girls!
You CAN 100% have effortless sales and more time freedom to pursue the things you love when you are working with your dream clients. You CAN have the perfect balance of revenue and fulfilling work and have clarity and direction in the marketing steps you should take each day.
There has never been an easier time to move forward with confidence and find your ideal clients online and grow your ideal business. They are waiting for you! Every second you spend in your business is impacted by who your best buyers are. So think about what market you can serve and who has a problem that you know how to solve.
Part 2: Identify Your Ideal Client’s Mindset
IMPORTANT: You probably already know a lot of what your market is thinking. Were you previously in that market? Who do you know already in that market that you have talked to?
A common mistake is overcomplicating what your ideal clients are thinking. Our job is simply to find problems and solve them!
The sooner you can identify what your ideal clients love to do and where they love to shop and what they love to read, the easier it becomes to market. You want to know what they are thinking before a word even comes out of their mouth. This comes from talking with your clients and spending hours uncovering their challenges, frustrations, goals and dreams.

Part 3: Find a real person
Identify one person that you actually know who has this problem you solve. If you don’t know a real person, you can start with an avatar but the sooner you can visualize REAL people, instead of avatars, the better. Every time I record a video or send an email, I am always thinking of a real person that I am talking to. This makes my marketing message so much more authentic because I’m talking to YOU!
CHECKLIST: Your Ideal Client should be:
- Willing and able to pay you what you’re worth
- Someone you actually like spending time with.
- Someone who respects you, your time and your skills.
- Someone who is excited and motivated to work with you.
Part 4: Find Your Ideal Clients
Your ideal clients aren’t just going to come to you automatically. We have to go find them and get in front of them.
I recommend using organic methods before ads. This makes sure you have tested out your messaging and it works to attract your market. You should be able to make sales and really know your target market before advertising. Plus free traffic is excellent for profitability because you won’t have to pay for ads. It’s definitely more work but better long term.
