9 Steps to Achieve Your Goals This Year
While many people who make resolutions at the beginning of the year tend to falter or fade before reaching the finish line, that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to achieve set goals.
According to one survey based on responses from 1,129 people, 48.4% of people who make resolutions report achieving infrequent success, 42.4% report never accomplishing their resolutions, and a mere 9.2% report achieving their resolutions.
One thing to remember is that people who explicitly commit to resolutions are 10 times more likely to achieve their objectives than are people who don’t explicitly commit to resolutions. So the right game plan, some determination, and a dash of stick–to–itiveness go a long way. With that said, read on for some tips on how you can dare yourself to live, love, and learn this year.

9 Steps to Achieve Your Goals in 2017

Live

All work and no play will make you a dull career woman. If you haven’t already managed to do so, you need to strive to achieve some semblance of a work-life balance. And, fortunately, there are ways you can reach this goal. Consider the following suggestions:

1. Add it to Your Calendar

If it’s important to you, add it to your calendar. Whether you want to go for a quick jog at sunrise, to hit the gym for a half-hour workout, or to meet up with some friends for breakfast or lunch, add it to your calendar — and stick to it.

2. Pick Up a Hobby

You can learn to live more either by finding a new hobby or by reacquainting yourself to one you had in the past. Whether you want to learn to play the violin, desire to take up running, or wish to dust off your old birdwatchers book so that you can head outdoors with your binoculars, let this be the year that you make a move on this front.

3. Take Time Off

Working hard is commendable since you definitely want to build a great career, but you still need downtime in order to be refreshed. So schedule vacations or take a sabbatical. The time away will actually allow you to come back reinvigorated and ready to work hard.

Love

Be sure to make time for the people who really matter in your life. Here are some tips:

1. Add it to Calendar

Yes, this is a common refrain — but it’s a true one. If you add it to your schedule, you might be more likely to stick to it. It might seem strange to add “play with kids” to your daily schedule, but carving out a specific time to get things that matter done could provide more incentive to stick to it.

2. Pick & Choose

It might sound cold, but you really do have to determine whom you can make time for and whom you can’t make time for. You need to acknowledge that it will be impossible to please everybody. So while you might reduce or eliminate coffee dates with acquaintances, you’ll want to make time for family and friends. Or at least some of your friends.

3. Eat & Play Together

Make a habit of eating at least one meal daily together as a family. Spend time discussing how everyone’s day went, perhaps have everyone help with preparing the food, and enjoy one another’s company. One previous study finds that 40% of families in America eat supper together no more than three times every week — and 10% never eat dinner as a family at all. Make it a priority and a habit of spending some bonding time with family around the table.

Learn

The new year is a great time to learn something new. Whether for more career options, higher salary, or personal fulfillment, you can leverage education or training to make things happen. Here are several tips that you can use to dare yourself to try something new this year:

1. Pursue College Degree Online

Taking an online college course is a great way to kick-start your career. You will be able to pursue a course at your own pace, which will help you to make more time for those who are important. In fact, there are innovative apps that will help you to completely digitize the learning process, which can make you more efficient.

2. Learn a New Language

Consider learning a new language this year. Studies have shown that there are benefits to learning a new language. Research shows, for instance, that learning a new language can enhance cognitive skills, boost intelligence, and increase problem-solving abilities.

3. Learn to Code

There are many benefits to learning how to code. You can use such skills to build a website or some specific-to-your-precise-needs apps. However, you can also develop some important skills in other areas. For instance, you can learn problem-solving skills as you look at old problems in new ways.
Dare yourself to live, love, and learn in the new year. Regardless of whether you considered last year to be good, bad, or indifferent, you have the chance to turn things around this year. So put in the hard work and make the most of this year. Good luck!
