Get Into the Right Mindset For Success

And I’m going to start by telling you a little story. Way back when I was in my corporate day job, I was feeling really, really stuck. I wanted to make a change. I had a dream of becoming a professor. That was my dream career. And I kept visualizing myself as a professor teaching students. I kept thinking this is going to happen. So, I kept reading affirmations to myself every single day. I really switched my mindset from I could never be a professor because I didn’t have any background in teaching. And I didn’t think it was possible for me to be a professor, but I was still setting my intention.

I was still thinking positively. I was still thinking that this could happen. And every day I visualized becoming a professor and teaching students. Every day I said an affirmation like I will be a professor. I am a professor. One thing led to another, and I started teaching on my own, which led to an opportunity to become a professor at DeVry University.

Like I knew I could do it and I couldn’t see myself as anything else but a successful professor. And that’s the mindset I want you to have too. There is no I might be able to be a professor or I hope I can be a professor today. Instead, know that anything that other people have accomplished, you can accomplish too. Got that. Repeat that to yourself. Anything that anyone else has done.

Other people are professors. So why can’t I, right? Repeat, I will be a success. I am a success. Not I hope I can be a success someday. Do you see how there’s a difference here?

The 5 Steps You Need To Do

1. BUILD CONFIDENCE

Don’t see yourself as anything else but a success. Don’t think, “I might be a success” or “I hope I’ll be a success.” Know that anything accomplished by another person can be accomplished by you too.

Repeat to yourself “I will be a success and I am a success.”

Repeat affirmations daily.

Practice daily. Just 15 minutes each morning, practice the thing you are interested in to grow your confidence. Daily videos. Daily photo designs. Daily writing. Daily learning.

2. ATTRACT THE CAREER YOU WANT

Do what you can, with what you have, from where you are today.

Don’t worry about tomorrow. What can you do today? Baby steps. Imperfect action.

The best way to find your passion and purpose is to be 100% you and to be your best self and then your calling will start becoming more evident. I love the saying: Do what you can, where you are, with what you’ve got.

When I realized that my best self was when I was teaching a group of employees on anything, even topics I hated, I looked for more ways I could add “training’ to my role as a financial analyst. I volunteered to lead the training team and to teach a course for new employees on how to navigate their careers in my spare time. From there, my true calling emerged.

My life purpose is to help other women find careers they love. That was me serving with my unique talents and skills and doing something that fulfilled me that I could wake up super excited about.

You don’t have to “know’ or “find” your calling right now. The key to overcoming your fears and finding your ideal career target is to focus on what you do best.

What are you thinking? You are what you think you are.

I started to call myself a career coach and introduce myself as a career coach. Everything changed. I started to believe it.

When you say negative things, you influence the circumstances. Start speaking to yourself as if you are already living your dream life. Start living your dreams today as much as you can.

What can you do in your day that looks like your dream life?

Focus on the job you want, not the job you hate. Everything that is coming in your life, you are attracting.

3. ELIMINATE WORRY

Don’t worry about your should’s. Just master what is in front of you right now. Don’t worry about the how.

List all your worries out on a piece of paper. What actions or baby steps can you take right now to reduce those fears and worries.

Limiting beliefs are those that constrain us in some way. These will hold us back. We have to let them go. They will keep you stuck and doing the same thing over and over again. I’m not good enough. That works for others but not for me.

What are the beliefs of someone in your dream career? What words and phrases do you use in your dream vision? Check out the Vision journal in the free planner.

If you think your career change is going to be hard, it will be. If you think it’s going to be fun and easy, it will be. “I don’t have time” you are right you don’t. It will never work for me. You are right, it won’t.

‘Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.’ — Henry Ford

It means you yourself determine your own success or failure. If you think you can, you will succeed or somehow find a way to do it.

Instead of how will I get the job, think, “How can I best serve the world?”

I’m reading the Book GRIT by Angela Duckworth, in our CLASS membership book club. People who believe their work is their calling and have some meaning behind their work, are happier and more fulfilled. It’s not just a job. There’s a bigger purpose and calling. There’s a reason why you are here.

Put yourself as CEO of your own career. Don’t count on anyone else but yourself to get that raise. You are worth your dream salary. Debt is the enemy. Without debt you can make career and life decisions that truly make you happy.

You’re in control. You can’t count on anyone else but yourself to get that raise, to get that job. We’re going to take responsibility right now because you know what? You are worth your dream salary. You are completely worth it. So we want to eliminate debt. Debt is our enemy here at Love Your Career Formula because without debt you can make life and career decisions that truly make you happy and fulfilled and that is our goal. When I was able to get out of debt with my husband, we were in over $80,000 of debt. We worked really hard to get out of debt. There’s no way we would be where we are today if we didn’t get rid of that debt so that I could eventually go part-time at my day job and transition into running my own business because we don’t have the debt.

5. GRATITUDE

When you aren’t grateful, you won’t receive more in return.

Don’t focus on hating your current job, be grateful for it. If you are grateful for the job you have, even if it’s not your dream job, things will begin to change so you enjoy your job more and opportunities will appear.

Even if life isn’t going your way, there’s always something to be thankful for.

Take control of your mindset for success is to practice gratitude daily. Because when you are not grateful, you won’t receive more in return.

Don’t focus on hating your current job. Be grateful for it because if you are grateful for the job you have, even if it’s not your dream job, things will begin to change so you can enjoy your job more and opportunities will appear. And that’s why I always recommend writing down three things that you are grateful for every single day. There’s always something to be grateful for. Maybe it’s just the cup of coffee that you’re having or the roof over your head. There’s always something to be grateful for. So practice living in gratitude.

Action Tasks:

Visualize yourself 5 years from now with your dreams and goals accomplished. What are your life and career like?

What are you grateful for right now?

List all your worries out on a piece of paper. What actions or baby steps can you take right now to reduce those fears and worries.

How can you best serve the world?
