Emma Watson’s New Book Club – We Are Joining…Are You?
You may know Emma Watson from Harry Potter. But, most recently you may know her from this speech and being appointed as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and helping to launch the UN Women campaign HeForShe, which calls for men to advocate gender equality. Now she’s at it again! She’s starting a feminist book club this year and all of us at CCG are joining in and fully supporting!  Will you join with us CCG Readers?
Emma’s first book club selection is a memoir by Gloria Steinem called My Life on the Road. The best part is she is using a great reading app that we used many years ago called Good Reads. Good Reads lets users track and rate books and network with other readers. So, we are excited to be doing lots of networking with other women on fire for equality and success. Here is the link to Emma’s book club, Our Shared Shelf, on Good Reads.

Here’s what Emma Watson says in the introduction to the book club:

Dear Readers,
As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on. There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too.
The plan is to select and read a book every month, then discuss the work during the month’s last week (to give everyone time to read it!). I will post some questions/quotes to get things started, but I would love for this to grow into an open discussion with and between you all. Whenever possible I hope to have the author, or another prominent voice on the subject, join the conversation.
If you fancy it, please join up and participate. Everyone is welcome. I would be honoured!
Emma Watson

About the Book:

My Life on the Road is the moving, funny, and profound story of Gloria’s growth and also the growth of a revolutionary movement for equality—and the story of how surprising encounters on the road shaped both. In prose that is revealing and rich, Gloria reminds us that living in an open, observant, and “on the road” state of mind can make a difference in how we learn, what we do, and how we understand each other. Gloria Steinem—writer, activist, organizer, and inspiring leader—now tells a story she has never told before, a candid account of her life as a traveler, a listener, and a catalyst for change.

About the Author:

Gloria Marie Steinem is an American feminist, journalist, and social and political activist who became nationally recognized as a leader and spokeswoman for the feminist movement in the late 1960s and early 70s.
