For years, I believed business had to look a certain way.
Long hours.
A packed calendar.
Constant hustle.
Being available all the time.
The bigger my business became, the more I started asking a different question.
What if success wasn’t about building a bigger business?
What if it was about how to build a business that fits your life?
That question has shaped almost everything I’ve taught over the last sixteen years.
It’s also the reason I created Summer Business School—a free 31-day podcast series where I’m sharing the exact lessons I wish someone had taught me when I started.
Not theory.
Not fluff.
The practical strategies that helped me leave corporate, build multiple income streams, create flexibility for my family, and continue growing a business I genuinely love.
If you’re joining the series late, here’s what we’ve covered so far—and why these lessons matter.
Lesson 1: Stability Doesn’t Come From One Paycheck
One of the biggest lies we’ve been taught is that one income source equals security.
I don’t believe that’s true anymore.
Whether you’re an employee depending on one paycheck or a business owner depending on one client, you’re still vulnerable.
Real stability comes from multiple income streams.
That’s why everything in this series starts with building a business that doesn’t rely on just one way of making money.
Lesson 2: Stop Building Passive Income First
Everyone wants passive income.
I understand why.
But passive income isn’t where I would start today.
If I had to rebuild my business from scratch, I’d focus on quick cash first.
Serve people.
Solve problems.
Generate revenue.
Then build systems that scale.
Too many entrepreneurs spend months creating courses before they’ve ever proven people want to buy.
There’s a faster path.
Lesson 3: Your Business Already Exists
I can’t tell you how many people ask me,
“Anna…what should I sell?”
Most of the time, they’re asking the wrong question.
Instead of asking what to sell, ask:
What problem do people already ask me to help them solve?
Your business usually isn’t hiding in another certification.
It’s hiding inside your experience.
Lesson 4: Your Story Has More Value Than You Think
For years, I thought I had to become “more qualified.”
Then I realized something.
People weren’t connecting because of my résumé.
They connected because I’d walked through the same challenges they were facing.
Your story builds trust.
Your experience builds credibility.
Your framework creates transformation.
That’s how offers are born.
Lesson 5: Don’t Build Before You Validate
One of the most expensive mistakes entrepreneurs make isn’t spending money.
It’s spending months building something nobody asked for.
I’ve done it.
Many entrepreneurs have.
Now I validate first.
Conversations before creation.
Customers before content.
Proof before perfection.
It saves months—and sometimes years.
Lesson 6: Pricing Isn’t About Confidence
People often tell me,
“I’ll raise my prices when I feel more confident.”
But confidence usually follows action.
Pricing isn’t about confidence.
It’s about clarity.
When you clearly understand the transformation you create, pricing becomes much easier.
You’re no longer charging for hours.
You’re charging for outcomes.
Lesson 7: Your First Client Isn’t Waiting on Instagram
This one surprises people.
Your first client probably won’t come from going viral.
They’ll come from a conversation.
Almost every successful entrepreneur I know started by helping one person.
Then another.
Then another.
Momentum is built one relationship at a time.
Lesson 8: Cash Flow Creates Confidence
There’s something powerful about earning your first thousand dollars.
Not because of the amount.
Because it changes what you believe is possible.
That’s why I teach entrepreneurs to pursue quick wins first.
Revenue creates momentum.
Momentum creates confidence.
Confidence creates consistency.
Lesson 9: Stop Selling Coaching
This may be my favorite mindset shift so far.
You’re not selling coaching.
You’re not selling consulting.
You’re not selling a course.
You’re selling a future your customer wants.
People don’t wake up hoping to buy coaching.
They wake up wanting their problem solved.
When you begin speaking about transformation instead of features, everything changes.
The Bigger Picture
Looking back over these first ten lessons, I realized they’re all teaching the same thing.
Business doesn’t have to be complicated.
We’ve made entrepreneurship far more confusing than it needs to be.
More funnels.
More software.
More certifications.
More strategies.
But none of those things matter if you don’t first know who you help, what problem you solve, and how you’ll create your first revenue.
That’s the foundation.
Everything else comes later.
Why I Created Summer Business School
I know what it feels like to build a career that looks successful on paper but doesn’t feel aligned anymore.
I also know what it feels like to wonder if building a business is even possible.
I’ve been there.
That’s why this series exists.
Not to give you another course to finish someday.
But to help you take one small step every single day toward building meaningful work that gives you more freedom—not less.
Because I don’t believe success should cost you your family.
I don’t believe you need to work eighty-hour weeks to make an impact.
And I don’t believe entrepreneurship has to be overwhelming.
I believe you can build a business that fits your life.
One lesson at a time.
Continue the Journey
If you’re ready to build alongside me, start listening to Summer Business School from Day 0 and work through one episode each day. Every lesson is designed to build on the last, so by the end of the series you’ll have a clear roadmap for creating a business with multiple income streams, clients you love serving, and a business model that supports the life you actually want.
The podcast is free, practical, and intentionally action-focused. Grab a notebook, press play, and let’s build a business that works for your life—not the other way around.
