How to Turn Your Career Experience Into a Coaching Business

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m good at this. I just don’t know how to build something around it,” this one’s for you.

This week on The Classy Career Girl Podcast I’m doing something a little different. I’m sharing the recording of my live masterclass, Break Free From the Wrong Career, in two parts. Part 1 is out today and Part 2 comes out Thursday.

You can listen right here:

Success and fulfillment are not the same thing

I was successful on paper. I had the title, the salary and the resume everyone said I should want. And I still had a pit in my stomach every Sunday night.

I didn’t have a plan. I had one honest question: what if my experience could help someone else move forward, instead of just moving me up?

That question became Classy Career Girl. I started it as a blog in 2010 while I was still working, and in 2014 I left corporate to run it full time. I didn’t wait until I had it all figured out. I built it while I was figuring it out.

Your experience is your coaching superpower

Your corporate experience. Your career change. Your industry knowledge. That is exactly what your future client is looking for.

Here’s a question to help you find your niche: What do I wish someone had told me five years ago? That answer is your niche.

Why career coaching is in demand right now

  • People want fulfillment, flexibility and growth.
  • Career transitions and burnout are everywhere.
  • Women want a relatable coach who has been where they are.

The person who has been there is the coach people trust. That’s you.

The myths that keep women stuck

  • “I need more experience to be a coach.” Your career and your story are the credential.
  • “I have to quit my job first.” You can start alongside your job, in about 15 hours a week.
  • “I don’t want to be pushy or salesy.” Selling is listening, then offering the next step.
  • “I need a big audience to get clients.” Most of our coaches start with outreach and referrals.
  • “There’s too much competition.” Women want a coach who has been where they are.
  • “AI is replacing coaches.” AI is a tool. Coaching is a transformation.

AI can write a resume. It can’t create clarity or confidence. Your story, your empathy and your real-world experience can’t be automated.

The 5-Step Career Coach Success Path

In the second half of Part 1, I walk you through the roadmap I use with every coach I train:

  1. Define your vision and coaching brand. Get clear on your niche, your income goals and your weekly schedule.
  2. Practice with confidence. Coach real people with real tools and collect testimonials. You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to get started.
  3. Package and launch your offer. One offer first, like a 90-day program, not hourly sessions.
  4. Set up like a CEO. Your legal, financial and onboarding systems, so you can track income and stay organized.
  5. Sell with confidence and scale with ease. Enroll clients consistently and add leveraged offers over time.

Coming Thursday in Part 2

In Part 2, I show you how the income can add up with one offer, then a digital product, then a group program. I also share what a 15-hour coaching week can look like, the mistakes I see new coaches make and the questions from the live chat.
