Do You Have a Personal Mission Statement?
While training for my half marathon this weekend (9 miles!), I listened to the entreleadership podcasts.  If you are in a leadership position at work or want to be in one someday, these are awesome podcasts to listen to (but I don’t recommend doing it while you run 9 miles).
Every week, Dave Ramsey gives an introduction to the leadership topic and then they interview an author or business person. It looks like they finally just interviewed a woman, Cordia Harrington, which I am excited to listen to.
Let me know if you listen to any of these podcasts and what you think! And if you are frustrated like me with the lack of women business leadership podcasts and interviews, get ready because I have an exciting announcement later this week!

The Importance of Having a Personal Mission Statement

I loved the interview with Dan Miller, the Author of 48 Days To the Work You Love (which is on my recommended reading list).  In the interview, Dan said that without goals of your own, you accomplish the goals of others. If you don’t have a plan, you are going to live someone else’s life. He said that no big achiever has ever woken up in the morning and said, “Let’s just see what happens.” If you want to be great you HAVE to be deliberate and that means making a plan. A personal mission statement should be part of that.
Dan’s comments (at around 7 minutes in) really made me think. I started off 2012 with plenty of goals. But in one month, I have already changed all of them. I feel like I am already kind of in the “Let’s just see what happens” mode that I know will not get me where I want to go.
I also realized that I don’t yet have a mission statement for this blog.  I learned in the interview that this is important because it will help me focus on what is be right or wrong when I am approached with opportunities for this blog.  I never want to lose sign of what my original mission for this blog is. So that is why it is really important for me to share my mission today!
