How do you stand out when you’re one of a million? Even more, how do you stay memorable, knowing you’re number twenty in a line of one hundred job applicants, or one of twenty in a line of candidates for promotion? It’s easy, proclaims Ellen Lubin-Sherman. You just have to be Fabulous. THE ESSENTIALS OF FABULOUS: Because Whatever Doesn’t Work Here Anymore by Ellen Lubin-Sherman reminds readers of long-forgotten basics (“People who write thank-you notes…are rarely forgotten”) and issues new to the 21st Century (“When placing a food order, it is not acceptable to simultaneously carry on a cellular conversation. Not even in the drive-thru”), with the zip and flair that makes one wildly fabulous.
There are three reasons that I love this book:
- This book has the most unique illustrations and fun colors that I have ever seen. Not only that, but it is very classy and we know I love all things classy!
- This book is not about the typical job search or career advice. Instead, it gives obvious advice that no one really talks about anymore. If you want to know how to differentiate yourself in the job market, this book will help you do that.
- This book is a great reminder of everything that I want to be in my career ~ A passionate, authentic, accessible, warm, competent career woman with an amazing attitude, impeccable manners, remarkable style and of course, very socially adept.

When I was growing up , my father once said to me “If a person looses money, he looses nothing; if a person looses his health, he looses something; but if a person looses his character, he looses everything”. Reading the above description of the book , I think completely encapsulates the quote that I just mentioned. It is definitely a “must-read”.
Thanks for entering Malini! LOVE the quote! Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like the recipe for a memorable, and productive, 2012!

HI Uche! Thanks for entering! Good luck!
I love books that touch on points that are sometimes forgotten. My mom was a big believer in thank you notes. She said that if she gave someone something and never received a thank you then she was never going to give them anything again! Needless to say, I always wrote thank you notes.
Thanks for entering Laura! Good luck! Sounds like your mom had some great advice!! Thank you notes are so important!

I am a grad student in a PSM (professional science master’s) school – I find blogs and articles like yours essential in filling in the gaps of what they don’t teach you in school. Keep up the good work!
