I definitely think that it depends on the corporate culture there and how long you've been at the company.
I just started a new job and I would likely do cards but not gifts for the co-workers i work with on a daily basis and maybe like a Starbucks gift card for my boss.
As for 'real' gifts, and for a number of co-workers – A) that might not be acceptable. B) Like you said, do you really want your paychq to deplete like that? I mean, it'll likely just be small, non-meaningful stuff so some kind & personal words in a card is just as good or better!
I usually don't 'buy' anything, but I think something homemade like cookies or candy is a nice thought…
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

I am so curious to see what everyone else says! Great question!
I had only just started at my job last year just before Christmas and so I didn't feel it was appropriate to really get gifts for co-workers. We do however do a gift exchange and I think it's a great way to get everyone involved without having to buy a gift or a card for all those in the office.
I plan on giving cards to the 10 or so people in my office that I've become close with but I don't think there will be any gift giving. Like you said, it's just too much money to spend!

Yes, I give to my assistant and the entire office chips in to get them gift cards.

I am the boss, and don't expect a gift.
I try to host a holiday party, or give cash bonuses before the Christmas holiday.
I don't have a job right now and even if I did, it's not my type of thing to give gifts to co-workers. kytah00@yahoo.com

sometimes I do, but I like to make them meaningful, not just cute little "things" I pick up. I want the recipient to know that I thought of them when I saw it!

I think this is a great idea! I work at home but have "business partners" I could give a gift to. Thank you for the idea. Please enter me in this giveaway.

In the past I have always made cookies/candies to share and given a small card with a candy cane to each person.

I'm self employed so no need to although i I did work a public job I probably would as long as its not a real big environment like walmart or something def. couldn't afford that many coworkers something… and maybe your typical gifts for a woman or a man body washes, or maybe even hand soaps or whatever comes to mind at the moment.

We usually do a "dirty santa" type of gift exchange where everyone brings a unisex gift worth a certain amount, say $25.

For the holidays and for everyday, I give them a good laugh. I love to make people laugh and there is nothing that feels any better than that. Laughter is the greatest gift there is.

I don't get anything for my manager or coworkers, however I do for my direct reports.
I used to give Godiva's until i found out my boss let his five year old scarf down the entire $75 box!
